Thousands of volunteers participate in clinical trials every year to help find out more about the effects of treatments on disease. Transparency in reporting all results is crucial for doctors and health-policy makers who need to make decisions about the most appropriate and effective treatment.
There has been much discussion recently about publication bias in the reporting of clinical trial outcomes, leading to calls from various agencies for improved reporting requirements for clinical trials. Early last year, AllTrials launched a campaign calling for all past and present clinical trials to be registered and all results to be reported. In November, the WHO welcomed a public consultation on the official WHO statement regarding public accessibility of clinical trials results.
F1000Research is supporting these calls with a collection dedicated to all clinical trials, providing a platform for researchers and clinicians to share all information on abandoned and current clinical trials, irrespective of whether the outcome was positive or negative, and encourage debate about conducting and publishing clinical trials and how to address publication bias.
F1000Research’s transparent post-publication peer review removes editorial bias and focuses the peer review on scientific validity of the research, making it easy for authors to share all trial results, including trials of unapproved, uncleared and unlicensed products.
