About this Collection
This collection is now closed to submissions.

Addiction to drugs carries an often debilitating stigma in many societies. Individuals grappling with substance use disorders often find themselves mistrusted, blamed, and even excluded from various social interactions. Critically, stigma can also deter individuals from seeking or accessing the treatment they need, further perpetuating the cycle of addiction. This stigmatization and dehumanization not only hinders the recovery process but also complicates social reintegration, often manifested through denial of employment and discrimination.

Our forthcoming Collection is dedicated to shedding light on this critical subject. We aim to explore how stigma may inadvertently exacerbate the struggles of those grappling with addiction. In addition to this focus, we are open to accepting manuscripts on other related topics that contribute to our understanding of addiction and its impact on individuals and society. We seek to thoroughly examine the effects on recovery, everyday life experiences, and the seeking of treatment, as well as other relevant aspects that deepen our knowledge in this field.

Submissions can take various forms, including but not limited to:
  • Research articles
  • Brief reports
  • Methods papers
  • Review articles
  • Theoretical papers
  • Opinion pieces
We welcome submissions employing interdisciplinary perspectives, and using qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods approaches. Submissions from researchers at all stages of their careers are invited. We particularly value contributions that provide unique insights or perspectives, shed new light on existing knowledge, or stimulate thoughtful discourse on addiction and its associated stigmas.

We look forward to your contributions towards this meaningful discourse on the complexities of stigma, its far-reaching implications, and the barriers it poses to accessing treatment.

Keywords: Addiction; stigma; recovery; treatment; discrimination; social reintegration; employment opportunity
