About this Collection
The technologies and platforms involved in the creation of real-time creative computing systems are emerging as the backbone for the technical accomplishment of large-scale interconnected, persistent virtual environments, often referred to as the Metaverse.
This convergence includes applications such as online gaming and virtual environments, digital communications, entertainment, and commerce. It utilises a wide range of technologies, including XR (VR/AR/MR) devices, real-time 3D content creation, virtual production, environmental sensors, volumetric capture, photogrammetry, and non-traditional user interfaces which involve multiple modalities such as gesture, holographic and multisensory displays.
This multidisciplinary collection aims to bring together academic and industry-based researchers and developers in disseminating information and experiences around novel technology developments and applications, ethical and socio-technical design challenges and societal impacts. Example topics include privacy and security, harassment in virtual worlds, virtual person-to-person interactions and communities, accessibility, age-appropriate content restriction, virtual identity and embodiment, immersion, and presence.
We welcome submissions of original research articles, software programs with write-ups and development/design post-mortems, case studies, reviews, and opinion papers.
Keywords: Extended reality, Virtual, Augmented and Mixed reality, Real-time 3D content creation and virtual production, Metaverse/VR applications, alternative HCI techniques, interfaces and displays for Metaverse, gaming
Submission deadline: 30th August 2023
