About this Collection
Gender and Violence collection has been designed to demonstrate a commitment to open-access publication of high-quality and original research output in the area of gender-based violence. This is a collection that aims to curate research regarding action, practice and policy on both visible (physical, sexual and psychological) violence and systematic (economic, political, and social) violence against individuals based on their gender identity. Even though gender-based violence is a topic that is usually associated with violence carried out by men against women, we acknowledge that it also includes violence against LGBTQIA+ individuals and violence against men. Gender and Violence collection welcomes papers that approach power imbalances in patriarchal societies with a critical and analytical eye.

The papers may provide a sociological analysis of the breadth of social, political, legal, historical, cultural, criminological issues surrounding gender-based violence around the world. They may also provide an insight into the public health aspect of gender-based violence, including complications such as STDs, unwanted pregnancies, physical injuries, PTSD and other mental health problems. Contributors should consider focusing on key issues including but not limited to:
  • Health-care provisions for gender-based violence (GBV) survivors
  • Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)
  • Social and structural responses to GBV
  • Memory, trauma, and survival on GBV
  • Sexuality and gender roles
  • Global prevention strategies and screening for GBV
  • Education and advocacy regarding GBV
  • Online gender-based violence: cyber-stalking, doxing and harassment
  • Prosecution of gender-targeted crimes
  • Sexual violence against LGBTQIA+ communities
  • GBV in refugee settings
  • GBV during peacetime, conflict, and post-conflict settings
  • Customary forms of sexual violence
  • GBV Research Methodologies and Triangulation
Submissions using qualitative and quantitative methods are welcomed, as is methodological reflection on the challenges regarding conducting research from a gender perspective and associated stakeholders.
